My mum was born in Beirut, Lebanon. When I came across this stunning old building in Malaga, Spain, my mum said it reminded her of one from her childhood. She’s always been too scarred by the memories of war to ever return to Lebanon, but painting this gives me a sense of connection to her past.
The three-storey building features arched balconies and a sense of history is portrayed through the old rock sphere off-centre. The lack of greenery is intentional, to emphasise the raw beauty of the architecture and its timeless character, along with the untold stories within its walls.
